The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has declared itself ready to administer the 2026 mid-year National Senior Certificate exams for 25,399 candidates. Officials have implemented security measures across 900 examination rooms while the South African Depression and Anxiety Group provides support for learner wellbeing.
The department confirmed all systems are in place for the exams, with a zero-tolerance policy on cheating. Sipho Hlomuka, the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education, stated that extensive measures ensure the examinations run with integrity, security and fairness.
Approximately 1,000 invigilators will oversee sessions at 13 storage points and 103 distribution centres. Hlomuka noted that 681 markers and 65 internal moderators have been selected, with appointment letters due by 19 June. Marking is scheduled from 3 July to 9 July, and results will be released on 7 August.
The South African Depression and Anxiety Group has highlighted rising stress among teens during exam periods. Roshni Parbhoo-Seetha, the group’s project manager for education, said common issues include anxiety, sleep disturbances and feelings of hopelessness. She advised learners to focus on progress rather than perfection, maintain routines and seek support early through the organisation’s 24-hour helpline.
