The Land Observatory presented data on June 24 showing more than 13 million hectares under foreign ownership. The meeting took place in the Senate Science and Technology Commission.
The fourth report from the Land Observatory details that Americans own 2.7 million hectares, Italians 2 million and Spaniards 1.7 million. These lands are concentrated in border areas, river zones and sites with critical minerals.
The presentation took place on June 24 during an informational meeting presided over by Senator Eduardo Wado de Pedro. Senators, academics, former ministers and social leaders attended.
The report examines the bill promoted by Minister Federico Sturzenegger that repeals limits from the 2011 Land Law 26.737. That law set a maximum of 15 percent foreign-owned land and bans in river areas.
The interactive map was created with data from the National Registry of Rural Lands by UBA members. The government of Javier Milei attempted to repeal the law through DNU 70/2023.
