Lou Koller, Sick of It All frontman, dies at 59

Lou Koller, founding frontman of the New York hardcore band Sick of It All, has died at age 59 after a battle with esophageal cancer. The band announced his passing on Instagram on July 24.

The group described the loss in a statement, calling Koller a beloved friend and iconic frontman whose charisma lifted spirits at shows worldwide. They noted that 2026 would have marked the band's 40th anniversary and thanked supporters who contributed to his medical fund.

Koller revealed his diagnosis in summer 2024 after doctors found a tumor in his esophagus. Sick of It All canceled a European tour for treatment, and the hardcore community organized benefit events. He announced he was cancer-free in May 2025, but the disease returned later.

Formed in Queens in 1986 with his brother Pete on guitar, Sick of It All emerged from the late-1980s New York scene alongside Agnostic Front and others. Their debut album Blood, Sweat and No Tears arrived in 1989, and they released music through 2018, including the 1994 album Scratch the Surface.
