Máximo Pacheco announced his resignation from the Novandino Litio board on Monday, hours before stepping down as Codelco president. In a letter to successor Bernardo Fontaine, Pacheco cited partisan pressures as the reason for his decision.
Pacheco, who had chaired the board of the Codelco-SQM alliance since January, justified his exit to avoid controversy. “I do not want to motivate an odious controversy, for the good of the country, our beloved Codelco and all the value represented by the magnificent company we have created,” he wrote in the letter.
The executive also bid farewell to Codelco via video, recalling his entry to the company in 1990. “Parting is dying a little,” he quoted from the poem by Edmond Haraucourt.
Biminister Daniel Mas valued the decision and called for a new stage marked by excellence in Codelco management. Pacheco thanked former president Gabriel Boric for his trust during his tenure.
