Mexico City prepares hypothetical scenario for National Drill 2026

Mexico City government outlined the hypothetical scenario for the National Drill 2026 at the Monument to the Revolution. The exercise, scheduled for May 6, will assess response to a simulated earthquake. Clara Brugada, head of government, stressed the importance of measuring the city's capacity.

The National Drill 2026 will take place on May 6 in Mexico City, with activities ending at 13:00. The Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection, led by Myriam Urzúa, urges building registration at simulacronacional.sspc.gob.mx/simulacromayo2026 by the night of May 5.

The hypothetical scenario will occur at the Monument to the Revolution, specifically on Avenida de la República linking to Paseo de la Reforma. Clara Brugada stated: “We will evaluate the city's capacity in the face of an event. Response capacity, information tools for citizens, and rapid review mechanisms in case of emergency”.

Objectives include assessing territorial deployment across 72 coordinations and 1,017 quadrants, verifying emergency response capacity, and activating the Emergency Committee. The timeline starts at 11:00 with the seismic alert, followed by internal protocols, initial damage assessment via condor flyovers and C5 cameras, and Emergency Committee mobilization until 13:00.
