ActionSA MP Alan Beesley has opened a criminal case against eThekwini municipal manager Musa Mbhele following a dispute over missing SIU reports on municipal finances.
The case was lodged at Cape Town Central Police Station this week after a heated exchange during a 20 May Scopa meeting.
Beesley accused Mbhele of lying about not receiving a 2023 SIU report on dodgy land sales in eThekwini. The Presidency confirmed in writing that the report and recommendations were sent to Mbhele in August 2023.
Mbhele denied seeing the report and said his team had not received it. Beesley noted that lying to Parliament carries a penalty of up to three years in jail.
The SIU report recommended blacklisting several companies and referred four matters for disciplinary action. Beesley highlighted the broader issue of unaddressed SIU findings across government.
