Colombian President Gustavo Petro spoke this Wednesday before the United Nations Security Council to warn about ideological currents that stigmatize migrants.
Petro urged against being deceived by anti-immigration ideology, which he described as Nazi. He highlighted dialogue as a tool to solve problems, referring to recent deportations of Colombians from the United States.
The president explained that he opposed migrants being transported in chains and that the Colombian government paid for the flights to guarantee their dignity. He stated that paying for dignity is not a bad expense and that problems are solved by talking.
Referring to incidents of violence in Belfast, Petro warned about the use of Artificial Intelligence to fuel hate against migrants, a phenomenon he said is already occurring in Colombia. He called for global regulation of Artificial Intelligence so it is not controlled by a few private interests.
