Police destroy over 100,000 marijuana plants in Cordillera operation

More than 100,000 marijuana plants valued at P20 million were uprooted and destroyed by Philippine National Police personnel during a July 12 operation along the boundary of Mountain Province and Kalinga.

The plants were found in a mountainous area between Sadanga town in Mountain Province and Tinglayan municipality in Kalinga. Officers from the Mountain Province Police Provincial Office, including the Sadanga Municipal Police Station and other units, carried out the eradication on site with support from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the police to curb the cultivation and distribution of illegal drugs in the Cordillera region. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. stated that intelligence-driven operations with partner agencies and local communities would continue under the Enhanced Managing Police Operations Program.

The destruction was reported by the PNP Public Information Office on July 13.
