RN grants freedom of action to deputies in vote on accusation against Grau

The Renovación Nacional bench unanimously decided to grant freedom of action to its deputies for the vote on the constitutional accusation against former minister Nicolás Grau.

RN committee head Diego Schalper announced the decision on June 9, 2026, via social media. The measure was taken unanimously following internal debates within the officialist party. The constitutional accusation against Grau, former Finance minister in Gabriel Boric’s government, was filed on June 8 by lawmakers from Partido Nacional Libertario, Partido Republicano, RN and PDG. The bill requires 78 votes to pass in the Chamber. Deputies such as Ximena Ossandón voiced reservations about the move, noting it could set a risky precedent for future ministers. The PDG bench and other officialist groups have yet to define their final stance. The deadline to file the accusation expires on June 11, three months after Grau left office.
