Study links quicker throws by Rodgers to Steelers offensive gains

A new analysis of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers shows markedly better performance when he releases the ball in under 2.5 seconds. The study compared his results with more or less time to throw during the previous season.

Data from Pro Football Focus indicated that Rodgers posted an 80.8 passing grade on quick throws, ranking ninth among qualifiers. His grade fell to 52.7 with at least 2.5 seconds in the pocket, placing second-lowest in the group.

Completion rate reached 74.4 percent on 301 attempts with less time to throw, along with 2,055 yards and 15 touchdowns. Those figures dropped to 52.8 percent on 195 attempts, 1,267 yards and nine touchdowns when he held the ball longer.

The report noted seven top-ten rankings across ten key metrics for quick-release situations. Six of the ten metrics ranked in the bottom ten when time to throw increased.

The analysis suggested the Steelers continue emphasizing quick throws while Rodgers works to improve results when given extra time. It pointed to upcoming changes in coaching and offensive line personnel as potential factors for 2026.
