The Confederación de Sindicatos de Inquilinas called on Monday for the PSOE and the government to hold a vote on reforming the Ley de Arrendamientos Urbanos to regulate room and seasonal rentals.
The confederation denounces that the initiative has remained blocked in Congress for two years due to the PSOE. President Pedro Sánchez promised in January to limit seasonal contracts to end evident fraud.
Carme Arcarazo, spokesperson for the confederation, said it is essential to approve the law before the end of the legislature. The union has started a letter campaign addressed to the president to apply pressure.
The proposal presented by Sumar, EH Bildu, ERC and the Grupo Mixto seeks to apply price caps in stressed areas and convert unjustified temporary contracts into standard rentals. It also bans charging property tax to tenants and other hidden fees.
