TSMC ramps up hiring for Dresden chip factory

Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC is accelerating hiring for its new plant in Dresden as construction advances.

Factory manager Christian Koitzsch told Handelsblatt that hiring is now proceeding massively. TSMC currently employs around 100 staff in Dresden, 40 of them from Taiwan. The goal is 2,000 employees once all machines are installed.

The 10 billion euro European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company project is backed by partners including Bosch and receives half its funding from state subsidies. It aims to reduce Europe's reliance on foreign chip supplies. Production is scheduled to start at the end of 2027.

At the construction site near Dresden airport, 1,200 workers are currently active. Numbers will rise above 5,000 this summer. Interior fit-out has already begun in the adjacent offices.
