The Japanese government announced on December 23 that United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will visit Japan as a state guest from February 8 to 10. This will be the first visit to Japan by a UAE president in 36 years.

During the visit, the UAE leader is scheduled to meet with Emperor Naruhito and attend a state banquet at the Imperial Palace. He will also hold talks with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to reaffirm cooperation across various fields.

The UAE has emerged as Japan's top supplier of crude oil, surpassing Saudi Arabia. In recent years, it has actively promoted investments in advanced technologies, including space development and artificial intelligence, which have attracted significant interest from Japanese companies.

At a news conference on Tuesday, Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara stated that Japan hopes the upcoming visit will "deepen friendly and cooperative relations in a broad range of areas." This trip symbolizes the strengthening of Japan-UAE ties, particularly in energy and technology sectors, and is anticipated to foster further collaboration between the two nations.
