Uber denies prejudice against autistic child in Belo Horizonte

Uber stated that there was no trip refusal due to the child's autistic condition, according to analysis of video recorded by the driver.

Ride-hailing company Uber spoke out on Friday (17/7) about the case that occurred in Belo Horizonte. According to Uber's press office, the information that the driver had denied the trip because the child is autistic does not hold.

The child's mother, Elisa Albuquerque, reported the incident on Tuesday (14/7) through her social media. She stated that the driver refused the ride after seeing the daughter's autistic identification badge, which led to an argument that was recorded.

Uber said it analyzed the media sent by the partner driver and confirmed that there was no trip refusal. The company regretted the discussion and reaffirmed that it does not tolerate discrimination.

The Civil Police of Minas Gerais said the case is under investigation by the Specialized Police Station for Assistance to Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly in Belo Horizonte.
