Ryu Ga Gotoku is developing Virtua Fighter Crossroads as a story-driven fighting game set in a new fictional Southeast Asian-inspired world. The project was discussed during a roundtable at Summer Game Fest.
Virtua Fighter Crossroads takes place ten years after Virtua Fighter 5. The Judgment 6 conglomerate has been removed, ending the world tournament and related android projects.
Four new protagonists lead the story, including MMA fighter Cielo and kickboxer Stella Bridge. Some legacy characters may appear in altered roles to fit the timeline and setting.
The game is set in Vilasapara, a semi-open sandbox world where side quests influence the narrative. Art director Ryo Shibasaki noted the team used real-world references for geography and climate.
Producer Riichiro Yamada said the goal is to combine RGG storytelling with Virtua Fighter gameplay without turning it into just another RGG title. He added that the experience should stand on its own merits.
