The latest trailer for Marvel's Wolverine has drawn over 10,000 comments on YouTube, most of them focused on Sony's plan to end disc production in 2028.
PlayStation fans have used the trailer, posted less than two days before July 18, to voice opposition to the shift away from physical media. Many comments reference the game's themes of loss and physical objects to criticize the company's decision.
The video has yet to reach 1 million views. Earlier Wolverine trailers from Sony reached similar comment counts only after nearing 10 million views.
Sony has not responded directly to the backlash. Japanese game industry consultant Dr. Serkan Toto noted that even a large protest would affect only a small portion of the company's 120 million active users and 50 million PlayStation Plus subscribers.
The company plans to stop disc production for new games in 2028, coinciding with the expected launch of the PS6.
