Woman shot by ex-partner in Zaragoza as attacker suicides

A woman died on Saturday in Zaragoza after being shot by a man she had broken up with, who then suicided. The incident took place on Calle Cardenal Cisneros in the Las Fuentes neighborhood around 9:23 a.m. National Police classify it as a gender violence case.

The incident occurred on Calle Cardenal Cisneros in Zaragoza's Las Fuentes neighborhood as the victim, a 42-year-old hairdresser named Silvia M. A. F. per one source, was about to open her J. A. S. salon, launched a year prior. Government Delegation sources state the attacker, her ex-partner—described as ex-husband in another source—started an argument at the door, dragged her inside by the hair, and after she exited, shot her multiple times, finishing her off on the ground before suiciding with the same competition pistol for which he held a sports license. Several weapons were found on him, but he was not from security forces or military. There were no prior complaints nor was she in the VioGén system, per National Police spokesperson Rubén Nido. Fernando Beltrán, Aragon's Government Delegate, highlighted the 'extreme cruelty' of the premeditated act, as 'he knew her steps' and it happened in broad daylight. 'There was a clear intention to inflict harm,' he said, calling it a 'scourge' for viewing women as possessions. A poorly parked vehicle with hazard lights is under investigation. Police confirm 14 women killed by partners or ex-partners in Spain in 2026, and two minors by gender violence; another source cites 13 women. It is the second machista crime in Aragon this year. Politicians including Jorge Azcón, Natalia Chueca, and Pilar Alegría condemned it. Rallies and a minute of silence are planned.
