Santa Monica Studio revealed God of War Laufey yesterday during a State of Play showcase. The spin-off stars Faye, Kratos' wife, in an afterlife realm called the Everywhen. It runs parallel to the events of the 2018 God of War and God of War Ragnarök.
The game features over 20 minutes of footage showing Faye awakening after her cremation and navigating a world filled with gods and creatures from multiple mythologies. She encounters Sekhmet, the Egyptian goddess of war, and Begtse, the Mongolian god of war, while fighting alongside companions including a dragon-like creature, a gelatinous cube named Phranque voiced by Jack Quaid, and a sentient ribbon called Rue. Faye's gameplay emphasizes agility with double jumps, air juggles, and faster combat reminiscent of the original Greek-era trilogy. Deborah Ann Woll reprises her role as Faye from flashbacks in God of War Ragnarök. Studio head Cory Barlog described the project as an expansion rather than a departure, noting that Kratos remains central to the franchise. The game has no release date and is set for PlayStation 5.
