Oneil Cruz placed on injured list with hand fractures

Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Oneil Cruz was placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with fractures in his left hand. The move is retroactive to Monday.

Cruz suffered the injury on Saturday during a slide into home plate in the fourth inning of a game against the Braves. He was held out of the lineup on Sunday but appeared as a pinch-runner in the ninth inning. The Pirates originally had Cruz in Tuesday's lineup after an off day, but scratched him before the game. He is having his best season with the team, posting an .822 OPS along with 14 home runs and 21 stolen bases. With Cruz sidelined, the Pirates recalled outfielder Billy Cook from Triple-A Indianapolis. Utility player Tyler Callihan is shifting to corner outfield, while Jake Mangum is expected to start most games in center field.
