Asian automakers dominate first day of São Paulo Auto Show 2025

The São Paulo Auto Show began on Wednesday (19) with press presentations at Anhembi, dominated by Asian brands like Geely, GWM, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Toyota and Caoa Chery. Companies announced launches, investments and expansions in Brazil. Highlights include hybrid SUVs and local production plans.

The event started in a closed auditorium at the Anhembi complex in north São Paulo, as staff finished setting up stands. Cars were displayed on stage or screen, with Oriental brands taking center stage, especially Chinese ones.

Geely announced national production of the EX5 EM-i SUV from the second half of 2026, featuring plug-in hybrid technology that allows electric-only driving and plug-in recharging. On the eve (18), Renault and Geely revealed R$ 3.8 billion investments in the Ayrton Senna complex in São José dos Pinhais (PR).

Renault, the only European to present, launched the Koleos SUV for the first half of 2026, its first hybrid in the country, and showed the Niagara pickup concept, with the final version in the second half.

On its national debut, GWM highlighted the Haval H6, its first locally made model, and plans 12 launches in 2026, with 38% growth and 150 stores. Production at Iracemápolis (SP) will expand, with a possible second factory in Brazil.

Honda celebrated the WR-V (from R$ 144.9 thousand) and expansion at Itirapina (SP), with 15% higher sales in 2025. It confirmed the imported hybrid Prelude coupe, with over 200 hp, for the second half of 2026.

Kia announced the most launches, including the diesel Tasman pickup, K4 line and Sportage and Stonic hybrids, plus the Sorento's return. "We went through very good and very bad times in the Brazilian market," said José Luiz Gandini, Kia Brazil president, citing tariffs and the 2012 Inovar Auto program with a 30% surcharge on imports.

Hyundai showed current models and its subscription program, unveiling the luxury electric Ioniq 9 SUV for 2026. Toyota presented the Yaris Cross (from R$ 161,390, in February), with flex and hybrid options, amid R$ 11.5 billion investments through 2030, including a new Sorocaba (SP) factory. "We are producing in three shifts in Sorocaba and two in Indaiatuba, with engines imported from Japan," said Evandro Maggio, Toyota Brazil president.

Caoa Chery closed with the hybrid Tiggo 9 (>500 hp) and restyled Tiggo 5X (from R$ 129,990, 2027 line early 2026).

The show opens to the public from November 22 to 30 at Anhembi, with tickets from R$ 63 to R$ 162.
