Burglar targeting elderly in Stockport jailed for 32 months

Macorley Collins, a 27-year-old from Stockport, has been sentenced to 32 months in prison for a series of burglaries that primarily targeted vulnerable elderly residents. The crimes, which occurred between September and December 2025, involved stealing valuable items including war medals and a Rolex watch. Police linked him to the offences through DNA evidence from a glove left at one scene.

Macorley Collins, 27, from Appleby Close in Adswood, Stockport, carried out burglaries mainly during the daytime, focusing on properties of vulnerable and elderly people in and around Stockport, Greater Manchester. The spree began on September 22, 2025, when he entered the home of a woman while she was out walking, taking medication she depended on, along with pearl earrings, gold pendants, and brooches valued at approximately £3,000.

Over the following months, Collins stole additional items, including a PlayStation 5, a Rolex watch, a platinum ring, two gold watches, and a mountain bike worth £3,800. In one of the later incidents in December, he took several First World War medals and a military OBE from a victim's home.

The investigation broke when officers recovered a gardening-style glove from the garden of a burgled property. Forensic analysis revealed DNA matching Collins, leading to his arrest. Further inquiries connected him to multiple scenes at the times of the crimes.

Collins pleaded guilty to 10 offences at Minshull Street Crown Court on Tuesday, receiving a 32-month sentence. He was charged with four burglaries, while six others were taken into consideration during sentencing.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson noted that in one of the final burglaries, Collins stole the war medals and OBE. PC Lucy Ward from GMP's Stockport district commented: 'Collins committed multiple burglaries in the Stockport area, helping himself to everything from expensive jewellery to family heirlooms. His brazen tactics of operating during the daytime show a clear disregard for people and their property.' She added that the force prioritizes investigating such crimes to ensure residents feel safe in their homes.
