Deputy hajj minister asks trainees to drop titles during training

Indonesia's Deputy Minister for Hajj and Umrah, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, has asked trainees for the 2026 hajj officials to remove their titles during training and while serving in the Holy Land. He made the remarks before more than 1,600 participants at the Asrama Haji Pondok Gede in Jakarta. The goal is to implement a 'reset' of social status to prioritize a service-based hierarchy.

Indonesia's Deputy Minister for Hajj and Umrah, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, stressed the need for trainees in the 2026 hajj officials' program to set aside personal egos. Speaking before more than 1,600 participants in the Penyelenggara Haji Indonesia (PPIH) training for Saudi Arabia 1447 H/2026 CE at the Asrama Haji Pondok Gede in Jakarta, he urged them to remove their titles, ranks, and positions.

"Today, I see that all of your personal egos are deeply buried. There's no more claiming to be a PhD holder, doctor, or professor. The positions you brought from outside are buried today," said the deputy minister.

In his view, within the dormitory, no social attributes apply, and the prevailing hierarchy is one of service. A high-ranking official or university professor shares the same duties: serving pilgrims, including carrying and assisting the elderly and those at high risk. He praised the participants' humility in shedding personal egos for the noble task.

He introduced the "One Family" concept, treating fellow trainees as siblings regardless of background. "We are all gathered here as one family, the hajj officials' family. Outside, they have their own ranks, but here when we serve together, we are one family," Wamenhaj stated.

This philosophy aims to bolster team cooperation in Saudi Arabia, eliminate bureaucratic barriers, and ensure smooth coordination during the hajj peak in Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina (Armuzna). The focus is entirely on pilgrim comfort.
