DoorDash driver charged in Amazon worker shooting death

An Indiana man faces homicide charges after allegedly shooting and killing a 26-year-old Amazon employee in a suburban Chicago parking lot following a confrontation over a comment about his height.

Devonta Hodge, 33, is accused of killing Dylan Perkins on June 28 at the Amazon Fulfillment Center on Vollmer Road in Matteson, Illinois. Prosecutors said Perkins, a janitorial worker on break, made a joking remark about Hodge's height as the DoorDash driver passed by. After completing the delivery, Hodge allegedly pushed Perkins twice before firing multiple shots.

The incident was recorded on surveillance video. Officers found Perkins with gunshot wounds to the torso shortly before 11 p.m. He was taken to a hospital but died from his injuries.

Hodge, who has a valid Firearm Owners Identification card but no concealed carry permit and a prior weapons conviction, turned himself in at the Matteson police station on June 30. A Cook County judge described the killing as senseless and ordered him held without bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 16.
