Fumito Ueda, creator of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, revealed his new game Gen Atlas during Summer Game Fest on June 5.
The announcement took place at the event where Ueda appeared in the audience before in-game footage was shown. Developed by his studio genDESIGN and published by Epic, the single-player open-world action-adventure title is set for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Epic Games Store. A press release described the premise: players awaken on an abandoned planet filled with colossal structures and encounter a massive robot. The trailer highlighted quiet, melancholic visuals consistent with Ueda's previous work. Ueda said in a statement that the team hopes to share an experience inspiring moments of quiet wonder and discovery. No release date or window was provided. This marks Ueda's first game in a decade since The Last Guardian and follows the 2024 formation of genDESIGN as an independent studio.
