Lavindkomstpersoner står over for isolation og fattigdom i Sverige

Ifølge en analyse bliver lavindkomstpersoner sorteret ud af ægteskaber og samliv, hvilket forværrer deres økonomiske situation. Dette sker på trods af en stærk kulturel norm for parbildung i Sverige, selvom 31 procent af voksne lever alene. Forfatter Petter Larsson fremhæver behovet for støttemaål for single.

I Sverige lever 31 procent af personer over 20 år alene, en andel der steg hurtigt efter de feministiske forandringer på 1960'erne og fordobledes inden for 30 år sammen med stigende skilsmisser. Efter 1990 aftog væksten, men økonomiske udfordringer vedvarer for enlige. Lavindkomstpersoner står over for højere omkostninger til bolig, rejser og abonnementer; for eksempel koster et hotelværelse 2.331 kroner for et par (1.165 kroner pr. person) mod 2.150 kroner for en enlig. Forskellen kan nå 3.000 kroner pr. måned for lejelejligheder og over 5.000 kroner for andelsboliger, ifølge en note i Dagens Nyheter fra 24. marts 2024. Enlige mænd udgør den største gruppe, der modtager socialhjælp, efterfulgt af enlige kvinder og single mødre. Ved 23 års alder har halvdelen af kvinderne cohabiteret med nogen, mens mænd når dette ved 25; ved 35 har over 90 procent af begge køn cohabiteret på et tidspunkt. Historisk har en del af befolkningen altid levet alene: I 1750 var 18 procent af mænd og 28 procent af kvinder i alderen 25 til 50 ugifte eller enker. Lavindkomstmænd lever alene i 37 procent af tilfældene sammenlignet med 11 procent for højindkomstmænd. Kvinder med høj uddannelse er mindst tilbøjelige til at leve alene, i modsætning til lavindkomsgrupper. Larsson argumenterer for, at samfundet er skræddersyet til par og foreslår single-rabatter, lejerabatter og skattelette for at imødegå den økonomiske dobbeltstraf.
