A 23-year-old man has been charged after accidentally firing a gun through his hand and into a nearby vehicle in a Memphis Walmart parking lot. The incident occurred on Saturday evening, according to authorities.
Elijah Jones was sitting in his white 2017 Chevrolet Impala when the firearm discharged as he reached for it beneath the driver's seat. The bullet struck his hand before hitting the rear passenger door of a 2013 Audi A4 parked nearby. A woman inside the Audi heard the shot and saw Jones drive away with an apparent hand injury. Police later found Jones at a nearby hospital receiving treatment for the wound. Officers recovered a 10 mm Smith & Wesson handgun and a spent shell casing from Jones's vehicle. He was charged with reckless endangerment and booked into jail with bond set at $100,000. Jones was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
