The government of Claudia Sheinbaum presented a list of extradition requests rejected or stalled by the United States since 2018.
During the May 18 morning press conference, Foreign Secretary Roberto Velasco reported that Mexico submitted 269 requests for provisional detention for extradition purposes to the United States between 2018 and the present date.
None were completed. Thirty-six were rejected and additional information was requested in 47 cases.
Highlighted cases include former governor Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, requested on August 8 2025, and Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, partner of Inés Gómez Mont, rejected because it did not involve a violent crime.
Rafael Zaga Tawil and Elías Zaga Hanono were also mentioned for Infonavit fraud, along with José Ulises Bernabé García and Pablo Vega Cuevas, alias ‘El Transformer’, linked to the Ayotzinapa case.
President Sheinbaum called for reciprocity in handling the requests.
