Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) stated there is no time to waste in achieving the planned 10.2 percent economic growth for the budget year. He inaugurated the redevelopment and riverbank development project from Entoto to Qechene Medhanealem.
The prime minister said the Sheger project from Entoto to Bole is mostly completed, with the remaining sections set to become fully operational in the next two to three months. He noted that injera development on Entoto mountain has shown high results, along with production of oranges, lemons, highland coffee and special honey.
He explained that eucalyptus trees are being replaced with indigenous species to boost the mountain's water retention capacity. The terraces built by Konso professionals to prevent soil erosion in the mountainous area represent a strong example of applying rural knowledge to urban development, he added.
Previously crowded houses along the riverbanks had been prone to flooding and inaccessible for roads, he recalled, but the area has now been fully transformed into a space suitable for recreation and movement. He invited Addis Ababa residents and visitors to walk along the development corridor in the mornings to maintain their health and appreciate the country's beauty.
