Enhanced PSSR Rolls Out Early in Resident Evil Requiem on PS5 Pro

An improved version of Sony's PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling is now live in Resident Evil Requiem for PS5 Pro players, ahead of the console's wider March update. The enhancement, born from a Sony-AMD partnership, boosts visual fidelity and immersion in the horror game.

Following last week's announcement by Mark Cerny of a March PS5 Pro software update to upgrade PSSR—Sony's AI-based upscaling tech akin to DLSS or FSR—the improved version is already available in Resident Evil Requiem.

PS5 Pro owners playing the game can activate it immediately via the new “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” option in console settings, as noted by Push Square. This early access precedes the full system rollout.

Capcom highlighted the impact: the upgrade enhances “the presentation quality of the protagonist through an upgraded version of RE Engine to deepen the player’s immersion in horror.” Specific gains include “each individual strand of hair and beard... rendered as a polygon, allowing it to move realistically... The way light passes through his hair changes depending on how the strands... are overlapped."

Leveraging advancements from the Sony-AMD collaboration on FSR 4, Sony expects to reveal more supporting titles later this month, including upcoming launches like Saros and 007: First Light.
