A 34-year-old former Swedish Armed Forces employee has been charged with attempted espionage. The prosecutor says he offered to hand over secret information to Russian intelligence services during a trip to Moscow in autumn 2025.
The indictment was filed on 10 June 2026. According to prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist the man contacted representatives of the FSB and GRU in Moscow in November 2025. He offered to hand over information of very high protection value in exchange for protection from Swedish authorities and future Russian citizenship. Evidence includes applications for residence permits, a Russian tax account and a citizenship card. The man is also charged with illegal stalking of a Försvarets Radioanstalt employee between December 2025 and January 2026. The investigation began after a security guard at FRA alerted police about the stalking. The man remains detained on suspicion of conspiracy to murder in a separate case concerning events in Moscow in December 2025. Much of the material is classified and the parties are under a gag order.
