Audiencia Nacional sentences Francisco Granados to two and a half years in prison

The Audiencia Nacional sentenced Francisco Granados on Wednesday to two and a half years in prison for fraud and prevarication in the Púnica case. The former PP leader in Madrid used his influence to award public contracts to Waiter Music between 2004 and 2013.

The court also imposes eight and a half years of disqualification from public office. Granados, a former counselor under Esperanza Aguirre, lacked direct powers yet wielded significant influence over PP-run municipalities to favor businessman José Luis Huerta, now deceased.

Other convicts include four former PP mayors: José Carlos Boza receives four years in prison, while José Miguel Moreno, María Ángeles Herrera and Carlos Alberto Estrada each get two years. Former senator David Erguido is also sentenced to two years.

The ruling details that Waiter Music billed nearly nine million euros in Valdemoro alone and organized events in exchange for favors, including private PP functions. The trial took place in the first quarter of 2026.
