Burberry reports 4% rise in first-quarter sales

Burberry posted a 4% increase in comparable retail sales for the first quarter of its 2027 fiscal year, driven by strong demand in the Americas and Greater China. The British luxury brand said sales reached £455 million on a constant currency basis. Growth came despite a decline in the EMEIA region linked to lower tourist spending.

The company reported double-digit gains in the Americas at 12% and 9% in Greater China. Asia-Pacific sales rose 3%, with South Korea up 11% while Japan fell 2%. For the first time in three years, all product divisions including womenswear, menswear, accessories and childrenswear showed growth.

Chief financial officer Kate Ferry noted that the US-Iran conflict mainly affected tourism rather than direct operations, as the Middle East accounts for only 2% of business. Sales in the EMEIA region dropped 3% overall.

Chief executive Joshua Schulman, marking his second anniversary, said the brand expects revenue growth and margin improvement in 2027. It also plans a new flagship store on Via Montenapoleone in Milan this year.
