Chance the Rapper und Jeremih haben am Heiligabend einen neuen Fünf-Track-Weihnachts-EP mit dem Titel Secret Santa veröffentlicht. Das Projekt ist die Fortsetzung ihrer gemeinsamen Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama-Serie. Es erscheint auf SoundCloud mit saisonalen R&B-Vibes.
Chance the Rapper und Jeremih, beide aus Chicago stammend, setzen ihre Weihnachtsmusik-Tradition mit der Veröffentlichung von Secret Santa am 24. Dezember 2025 fort. Der auf SoundCloud verfügbare EP umfasst fünf Tracks: „Safe With Me“, „I Want What I Want“, „Black Santa“, „Gloria“ und „Bless Them All“. Er baut auf ihren früheren Kollaborationen auf, beginnend mit dem 2016er Mixtape Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama, gefolgt von der Re-Wrapped-Version 2017 und der 2020er Edition The Gift that Keeps on Giving.
Der Eröffnungs-Track „Safe With Me“ schafft eine gemütliche Winterstimmung. Jeremih singt im Refrain: „Don’t have to be left alone/By yourself on your own/Girl, you should be in some arms/Safe with me, far from home.“ Chance steuert eine Strophe bei: „It’s cold out there, it’s lonely outside/There’s ice on them roads, it’s slippery, don’t slide/It’s frozen outside, it’s snowing outside.“ Das Duo teaserte den EP auf Instagram Stunden vor dem Drop, postete einen Snippet von „Safe With Me“ und fragte Follower: „Should I upload tonight?“
Zurückblickend auf ihre Partnerschaft, erzählte Jeremih in einem Billboard-Interview 2017, wie das Originalprojekt schnell entstanden war: „We did that project in a week and a half. I bumped into him at CRC Studios and he asked what I was working on. I told him, ‘Man, I’m just doing something for my fans for Christmas.’ He was like, ‘Fuck it. Let’s hit them.’ I’ve never been in the Christmas spirit ever. My whole family was dancing to Merry Christmas, Lil’ Mama. My grandpops was dancing to it.“
Jeremih hatte letztes Jahr bereits einen Solo-Weihnachtssingle „Secret Santa“ veröffentlicht, was seine anhaltende festliche Produktion zeigt. Chance plant derweil, den Weihnachtsgeist mit einer „Day after Christmas AfterParty“ am 26. Dezember in Chicago zu verlängern, wobei die Einnahmen seiner Non-Profit-Organisation SocialWorks zugutekommen.
