China defeats Japan to win 12th straight table tennis title

China defeated Japan 3-0 in the men's final on Sunday to claim its 12th consecutive title at the 2026 World Table Tennis Team Championships in London.

The victory also marked China's 24th men's team championship in the tournament's history. Liang Jingkun opened the final with a 3-2 comeback win over Japan's Tomokazu Harimoto after trailing two games. Wang Chuqin followed with a 3-1 victory against Sora Matsushima, and Lin Shidong closed out the match with a 3-1 win over Shunsuke Togami.

China also secured the women's team title at the same event, completing a sweep of both team competitions. The men's title streak dates back to the 2001 edition in Osaka, where the team first lifted the Swaythling Cup.

The 2026 ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals took place in London, with the final matches concluding on Sunday.
