Groups highlight gaps between 2026 SONA promises and reality

Several sectors said they have yet to feel the benefits of programs highlighted by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during his fifth State of the Nation Address.

On Monday, July 27, Marcos highlighted programs such as Benteng Bigas Meron Na, KADIWA Centers, and Presidential Assistance to Farmers, Fisherfolk, and Families, which he said benefited 12 million Filipinos.

Audrey de Jesus of IBON Foundation said farmers they spoke to are tired of government promises amid poverty and corruption. Mercy Wabe from Cagayan de Oro noted that rice assistance has not reached many indigenous communities where prices remain at least P50 per kilo.

Youth groups questioned education plans. Matt Gonzaga of Pamatan‑on Kontra Kurapsyon asked if senior high school work immersion was for free labor. Indigenous participants at a gathering said their needs were overlooked, including in Bangsamoro plans, while other unaddressed issues included economic reforms, anti-corruption, the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, and LGBTQ+ rights.
