Kathy Rinaldi gab am Mittwoch nach 18 Jahren ihren Rücktritt als Leiterin des Damentennis beim USTA bekannt. Die ehemalige WTA-Profi-Spielerin erhielt für ihre Verdienste um das amerikanische Damentennis Anerkennung von Chris Evert und Danielle Collins.

Rinaldi teilte die Nachricht in einem Instagram-Beitrag mit dem Titel „Eine von Herzen kommende Botschaft zum Abschluss dieses Kapitels“. Sie schrieb, die Aufgabe sei „eine Berufung, eine Ehre und eine Gelegenheit gewesen, dem Sport zu dienen“. Die 59-jährige gebürtige Floridianerin schloss sich 2008 dem Spielerentwicklungsprogramm des USTA an und fungierte später von 2016 bis 2023 als Kapitänin des Billie Jean King Cups, wobei sie die Vereinigten Staaten in ihrer ersten Saison zum Titel sowie zu weiteren Final- und Halbfinalteilnahmen führte. Zudem betreute sie das US-Damenteam bei den Olympischen Spielen 2020 in Tokio und 2024 in Paris.
