Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi received the best direction prize at the Cannes Film Festival for their film 'La bola negra', shared with Pawel Pawlikowski.
Spanish directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi claimed the award after the screening of their work, which weaves stories around the figure of Lorca during the Civil War.
In statements to the press after the announcement, Calvo and Ambrossi confirmed they will continue collaborating. “Darlings, now we have a directors’ prize at Cannes, so if there was any doubt…”, they said. Both indicated they plan to write a new film, possibly in English, and will negotiate with Netflix in the United States, though they insist it premieres first in theaters.
The film will open in Spain on October 2. The filmmakers thanked Pedro Almodóvar and Rodrigo Sorogoyen, present in the competition, for their inspiration.
