Rockstar has made it possible for players to upgrade older versions of Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online to current-generation consoles and PC editions at no cost, effective June 18.

The free upgrade applies to copies on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, allowing migration to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions. PC players with the Legacy edition can also move to the Enhanced edition without additional payment.

This change coincides with an upcoming GTA Online update scheduled for July, titled The Kortz Center Heist. The update includes new content such as an art studio for mansions, along with in-game discounts and rewards.

Previously, a limited-time upgrade option cost $10 before being discontinued, after which players had to purchase the game again for newer platforms. Rockstar has unlisted the Legacy edition on Steam in prior years.

Others express frustration over exclusions for physical copy owners, viewing it as unfair to loyal fans.
