Rush to Falun workshops on last day for studded winter tires

April 15 marks the last day to drive with studded winter tires in Sweden. Workshops in Falun are overwhelmed with customers switching to summer tires. Team leader Joakim Ahrnberg says they handle about 120 cars per day.

A car workshop in Falun is in high gear as drivers must switch tires before the ban on studded tires takes effect from April 16, unless winter road conditions apply.

Team leader Joakim Ahrnberg at the workshop says they change tires on about 120 cars daily. In Dalarna, studded tires remain common, though some opt for friction tires. "It’s becoming more friction tires with electric vehicles, as you want to reduce rolling resistance and get further per charge," he says.

According to Polisen.se, studded tires are permitted from October 1 to April 15. From April 16 to September 30, they are prohibited without winter road conditions. Winter tires are mandatory during winter road conditions from December 1 to March 31.

Many customers wait until the last minute, leading to a rush at Falun workshops.
