Innenminister Doug Burgum präsentierte am Donnerstag einen Entwurf für das neue Design der East Potomac Golf Links und verschaffte damit einen klareren Blick auf die lange debattierte Renovierung des städtischen Golfplatzes in Washington, D.C. Der Plan sieht einen Par-72-Kurs mit einer Länge von 7.660 Yards vor, der zusätzliche Wasserhindernisse sowie einen separaten Übungsbereich umfasst.

Der 18-Loch-Platz würde den Großteil der künstlich angelegten Halbinsel einnehmen, während an der Südspitze Grünflächen erhalten bleiben sollen. Nördlich des Hauptplatzes sind zudem ein 9-Loch-Kurzplatz und eine Übungsanlage vorgesehen. Der Entwurf stammt von dem Architekten Tom Fazio und markiert eine Abkehr von der ursprünglichen Streckenführung von Walter Travis, die vor über einem Jahrhundert entworfen wurde.
