Trial begins for boys accused of raping disabled girl in Uppsala

The trial has begun against two boys accused of raping a disabled girl in public toilets at Gränby centrum shopping centre in Uppsala. Prosecutors say the assaults were filmed and the victim was threatened with the material being distributed.

The trial against the two boys started on Monday in Uppsala. The older boy, who was 16 at the time of the alleged crime, is charged with gross rape against a child. The younger boy, aged 14, is not criminally responsible due to his age and is instead subject to a bevistalan, a procedure to determine if he committed the offence without any sentence being handed down.

According to prosecutor Karin Persson, the crimes took place at four different public toilets in the shopping centre. The girl was reportedly beaten and held down while being raped. The suspects are also accused of filming the attacks and threatening to distribute the recordings.

The older boy denies the rape charge but admits to related photography and child pornography offences. The younger boy denies all allegations. The indictment states that the older boy had prior contact with the victim, while the younger one was unknown to her beforehand.

The incident came to light when the girl sought medical care last autumn, leading to a police report.
