MacKenzie Gore allowed one run over four innings after volunteering to start in place of Jacob deGrom, who was dealing with a mild left glute strain. The Rangers built a 4-1 lead before the Astros tied the game and then took a 5-4 advantage on a solo homer by Cam Smith.
Kyle Higashioka tied the score with a solo shot in the eighth. Nimmo then drove in the winning run with a walk-off single.
Manager Skip Schumaker praised Gore's effort and the team's resilience. Gore said he wants to do whatever it takes to help the Rangers win. The victory improved their record to 49-47 and gave them a 1.5-game lead in the American League West heading into the break.
