The Chaco government announced that the urban public transport fare will rise to $1.885 starting January 12, 2026, making it one of the highest in the country. To cushion the impact, the state will allocate over $1.800 million monthly in subsidies. The decision follows public hearings and aims to ensure service continuity.
The provincial government of Chaco set the new urban public transport fare at $1.885, effective from January 12, 2026. This rate, one of the highest in the country, is based on a technical analysis establishing a real cost of $2.936, with the state absorbing the difference through subsidies. The decision was made after public hearings on December 10 and 12, 2025, jointly with the Subsecretaría de Transporte, the Ministry of Infrastructure, and concession companies.
Subsidies will exceed $1.800 million monthly, an increase of over 40% from previous contributions. Currently, the province invests more than $1.450 million through programs like Chaco Subsidia, Boleto Estudiantil Gratuito, and Asistencia Financiera, plus about $400 million national funds managed monthly. The executive highlights that over the last two years, it has met its commitments despite reduced national subsidies, aiming to moderate the impact on users and ensure operability amid rising costs.
The increase comes with demands on companies to improve service: increasing frequencies, optimizing and extending routes, and renewing obsolete units. A Subsecretaría de Transporte report revealed that in 2025, there was a reduction in frequencies on several lines, low percentage of units in service, and breaches of contracts, driving user migration to alternative transport apps. Accordingly, the government supports the Resistencia Municipal Council in seeking a regulatory framework for these platforms, given rising demand.
The executive emphasizes that the subsidy scheme seeks sustainable improvements in system efficiency and competitiveness.
