AI technology developed for human augmentation in music contest

Ethiopia's Artificial Intelligence Institute is developing AI technology for human augmentation using ethical and bird-inspired approaches. Fana Media Corporation organized an AI music contest in collaboration with the institute and Ehud AI Studio. Director Werqu Gechena and Minister Deta Nebiyu Baye shared insights on the event.

On May 26, 2018 (EC), in Addis Ababa, Fana Media Corporation held an AI music contest in collaboration with partners. The event focuses on integrating AI technology in the music sector.

Dr. Werqu Gechena, director of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, stated, "AI is being developed for human augmentation using ethical and bird-inspired approaches." He explained that AI enhances human abilities in reasoning, calculation, planning, learning, and language understanding. The contest trains youth in ethical AI application through bird creation practices.

Minister of Culture and Sports Deta Nebiyu Baye said, "AI expands human creative capacity rather than replacing it." She noted initial fears with new technologies but affirmed Ethiopians overcame challenges through creativity. This technology allows contestants to showcase their skills by combining machines and human effort in music.
