La Comisión Electoral aprueba el voto a domicilio para 237.000 electores

Más de 237.000 electores mayores de 85 años o personas con discapacidad han sido autorizados para votar desde sus hogares antes de las elecciones del 9 de abril en Kerala, Assam y Puducherry, informó la Comisión Electoral este lunes. De ellos, 167.000 votantes de la tercera edad, un 53% de los elegibles, optaron por esta modalidad. Adicionalmente, 70.499 electores, aproximadamente el 15% de las personas con discapacidad, eligieron el voto a domicilio.

La Comisión Electoral declaró que, bajo la Ley de Representación del Pueblo de 1951, los electores mayores de 85 años y las personas con discapacidad (PwD, por sus siglas en inglés) pueden acceder al voto a domicilio, mediante el cual funcionarios electorales visitan sus residencias para facilitar el uso de papeletas por correo. Hasta el lunes, 167.000 electores mayores de 85 años, lo que representa el 53% del total de este grupo, optaron por el voto a domicilio. Aproximadamente el 15% del total de electores con discapacidad, sumando 70.499 personas, también eligieron esta opción. El proceso ha comenzado en Kerala, Assam y Puducherry y concluirá el 5 de abril. La CE agregó: “A los electores mayores de 85 años y con discapacidad que no hayan optado por el voto a domicilio facultativo se les proporcionarán todas las instalaciones necesarias en los centros de votación”.
