Enercity plans virtual power plant with Kraken

Utility Enercity from Hannover plans to build a virtual power plant together with British firm Kraken. Media reported the news exclusively on June 4, 2026.

The project aims to bundle decentralized photovoltaic systems and battery storage. This would allow the units to operate like a single large power plant on the grid. Enercity and Kraken intend to improve the integration of renewable energy. Virtual power plants help balance supply and demand on the network. Jochen Schwill of Spotmy Energy highlighted the potential: “There is enormous potential slumbering there that we can provide very cheaply.”
