Ethiopia's import substitution policy strengthens industries, minister states

At the launch of Ethiopia's import substitution expo in Addis Ababa, Industry Minister Melaku Alebel stated that the policy has brought significant changes in the use of domestic products. He noted that it has resolved previous industry challenges to enhance production capacities step by step.

In Addis Ababa on Ketit 10, 2018 (Fana Media), the launch ceremony of Ethiopia's Import Substitution Expo took place, presided over by Industry Minister Melaku Alebel. The minister stated that the policy has introduced noticeable changes in the utilization of local products.

"It has delivered significant results by resolving the problems that industries previously faced; by addressing challenges step by step, it has urged them to strengthen their production capacities," Mr. Melaku said.

The import substitution policy aims to promote acceptance of Ethiopian products and expand market opportunities. This expo serves as an initial step in that direction. Additionally, the upcoming Ethiopia Industry Expo, the second edition, will occur under the theme 'Double Legality for Ethiopian Industry' at the Addis Ababa International Convention Center from Miazia 24 to 28, 2018 E.C.

The expo will feature 270 manufacturers. It will facilitate market linkages and improve product quality. More than 2,000 visitors are expected. It will showcase innovations, facilitate technology transfers, and promote skill development. Panel discussions, product innovation competitions, and mentorship programs for underperforming industries are planned. Furthermore, a 10-kilometer race will be held on the grounds.
