WTO director-general praises Ethiopia's membership efforts

At the WTO's 14th Ministerial Conference in Yaoundé, Cameroon, Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala commended Ethiopia's efforts to become a member. She noted that Ethiopia achieved more progress in one year than in the previous 22 years. The director-general urged the 166 member states to approve and support Ethiopia's accession.

Addis Ababa, March 17, 2018 (FMC) - During the opening of the 14th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference in Yaoundé, Cameroon, Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala praised Ethiopia's high-level efforts toward membership.

Ethiopia's Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, Dr. Kasahun Gofe, is attending the conference.

In her remarks, the director-general highlighted that Ethiopia's delegation made greater progress in one year than in the preceding 22 years of negotiations. She emphasized that this reflects the government's strong political commitment.

She further called on the 166 member countries to provide approval and support for Ethiopia to complete its accession process during the upcoming Year of Farmers.

The conference focuses on future trade integration issues.
