Former Kilgoris MP Gideon Konchella dies at 74

Former Kilgoris MP and Minister Gideon Konchella has died at the age of 74 after a period of illness.

Mr Konchella died on Friday June 12 2026 at 4 pm at Nairobi Hospital after receiving treatment for about two weeks. Other sources state he died on Saturday June 13 following a cardiac arrest.

Before entering politics he served in the military and rose to the rank of colonel. He was elected Kilgoris MP in 2002 through NARC and served for 20 years. He was Deputy Minister for Health and later Minister for Immigration under President Mwai Kibaki.

President William Ruto sent condolences saying Kenya had lost a leader who served the people with honour. Current MP Julius Sunkuli described him as his predecessor who helped development in the area.
