Government communication service promotes Fayda digital identity

Ethiopia's Government Communication Service has stated that digital identity is a pivotal technology driving economic and social progress in today's connected world. The Fayda ID system positions Ethiopia within the global digital revolution, similar to how nations like Singapore, India, and Estonia have digitized government services for efficient citizen access.

On Tahsas 25, 2018 (Fana BC), in Addis Ababa, the Government Communication Service issued a statement elucidating the Fayda digital identity initiative. The document underscores that digital identification serves as a cornerstone in Ethiopia's integration into the worldwide digital economic transformation.

“Fayda: What does it benefit? Digital identity is a key technology driving economic and social development in today's connected world.”

Research findings indicate that adopting digital IDs substantially boosts national economic growth. Fayda verifies citizen identities through biometric data, promotes equitable access to social services, prevents fraudulent information, and bolsters national security. By bridging divides between the government and citizens, it ensures services reach only legitimate individuals, thereby aiding efforts to curb corruption and wealth disparities.

This framework establishes a basis for Ethiopia to develop a globally competitive digital economy. By supplanting paper-based IDs and bureaucratic hurdles, Fayda integrates technological, economic, and social domains, positioning the country to achieve middle-income status by 2030. Every citizen is encouraged to adopt the Fayda ID to participate in digital society and meet contemporary demands.
